Oct 2026 | Faregate Effectiveness Audit
This is an audit we did to measure evasion rates on the newly installed full-height paddle gates compared to pre-installation and other faregate designs on the system. We found that upgraded stations saw a 36% average drop in fare evasion rates.

Mar 2026 | 2025 Fare Evasion Dashboard
This is a comprehensive attempt to estimate the evasion rates of every bus route and most rail stations in Calendar Year 2025, by comparing TAP and farebox data to ridership data. We found that in 2025, the systemwide fare evasion rate was roughly 50%.

Jul 2025 | A Metro Worth Paying For
In July 2025, we released A Metro Worth Paying For. This report documented LA Metro's abandonment of fare enforcement, and pitched our proposal for how Metro leadership could reverse course. We didn't know as much back then (for instance, how many fare checks were happening), so please see our later materials for a more up-to-date version of our messaging.

A Metro Worth Paying For marked the beginning of our campaign and since then, we have remained committed to adapting our research and messaging as we learn new information. As part of this commitment, we took the radical step of including a corrections log at the end.
